Subspecies, varieties, forms and cultivars of plants belonging to the Ferocactus chrysacanthus group

• Ferocactus chrysacanthus (Orcutt) Britton & Rose: Solitary barrel cactus. The plant is very densely covered with golden yellow spines (one of the spiniest of the Ferocacti) It has yellow or yellow-orange flowers.
• Ferocactus chrysacanthus subs. grandiflorus (G.E.Linds.) N.P.Taylor: This subspecies has red or red-orange flowers.
• Ferocactus chrysacanthus f. rubrispinus (Abel ex Orcutt) G.Unger: This form has orang to bright red thick, twisted and more or less hooked spines.
• Ferocactus chrysacanthus cv. Orange spines: This variety has rich orange coloured spines instead of yellow.
