Praecereus euchlorus (F.A.C.Weber ex K.Schum.) N.P.Taylor: (subsp. euchlorus) has as many as 8 ribs and 10-14 spines. Distribution: it occurs in Brazil, Bolivia, Argentina, and Paraguay.
- Praecereus euchlorus subs. amazonicus (K.Schum. ex Vaupel) N.P.Taylor
Praecereus euchlorus f. cristata: crested form.
- Praecereus euchlorus subs. diffusus (Britton & Rose) N.P.Taylor: has 4-9 ribs and 7-17 spines. Distribution: southern Ecuador and northern Peru.
- Praecereus euchlorus subs. jaenensis (Rauh & Backeb.) Ostolaza: has 11-14 ribs and about 20 spines. Distibution: Jaen and adjacent areas, northern Peru.
- Praecereus euchlorus subs. smithianus (Britton & Rose) N.P.Taylor: A large shrub to 5 m with erect stems, 7-9(-11) ribs and as many as 13 spines. Flowers bell-to funnel-shaped, to 10 x 6 cm. Distribution: Trinidad, Colombia, and Venezuela.
